Chania Rock Festival

Meet our venue : San Salvatore

Part of the fortification system of Chania, San Salvatore was erected on the 16th century by Venetian authorities right next to the famous Venetian Harbor to deflect anticipated Turkish raids.

According to the unwritten rule of the era, the fort was named after the Venetian general supervising the construction, despite the fact that the instigator, designer, and architect was Michele Sammichieli. Noteworthy is the matter of local ground workers shouldering the completion of the construction for 107 years (1538 – 1645).

During the centuries following the war, the fort deteriorated under ownership of multiple authorities. Nevertheless, in recent years the government has set in motion plans for the repair and maintenance of the walls in order for the fort to be utilized once more.

With absolute respect to this historic site, and thankfulness towards the municipality of Chania for trusting us with it, Chania Rock Festival team invites you all for another consecutive year on the 4-5-6 of July to one of the most dazzling venues you’ve ever seen to witness the 2019 edition of Chania Rock Festival.

Chania Rock Festival is taking place in the San Salvatore Venetian Bastion area. San Salvatore is located right in the middle of the old city of Chania, next to the famous Venetian port of the city and surely it is one of the most beautiful venues in Europe.
